Kathmandu. Actor Dayahang Rai has revealed that he has attempted to bring a certain degree of change to his appearance in the film ‘Baristha Balaram’. Dayahang, who is mostly seen as a poor, struggling villager in most of his roles, will appear as an urban, wealthy character in ‘Baristha Balaram’.
In ‘Baristha Balaram’, Dayahang will be seen in a pompous character, travelling by car and escorted by five to seven people. That's why he mentioned that his appearance would be noticeably different. This look is also visible in the trailer, and it seems quite distinct compared to his previous films.
He has rarely played characters who dress up smartly in a coat, pants, and tie. "Actually, more than the appearance of a character, I enjoy and prioritize working on the inner aspects of that character," says Dayahang. "Even when I first read the script for this movie, I hadn't imagined the kind of getup my character is wearing now."
Surendra Paudel has directed ‘Baristha Balaram’. Director Paudel told Dayahang that he had envisioned the character as one who dresses smartly in a suit and tie. Although the inner disposition was different, the character was meant to project an image of being superior—a "Baristha" (Senior)—so Dayahang felt that this appearance would work.
Consequently, Dayahang wore a tie, suit, and coat in the intense heat of Chitwan, which was certainly something new for him in a film. At a glance, it looked completely novel.
"The appearance was somewhat different, but it wasn't uncomfortable. It's acting; you do whatever is required," Dayahang says. "However, wearing the coat was genuinely challenging. The heat in Chitwan with a coat on was immense. The coat became like a challenge for me."
In ‘Baristha Balaram’, Dayahang plays a character who constantly wants to project a sense of seniority and maintain his dominance over the river (or local area), resisting anyone who tries to interfere with his authority.
The main story of ‘Baristha Balaram’ is the conflict between Dayahang's character and Bijay Baral, who is intent on seizing Dayahang's monopoly for his own gain. These two actors are the main protagonists of ‘Baristha Balaram’.
The film ‘Baristha Balaram’, directed by Surendra Paudel, is set to be released on Kartik 6 (October 23), the day of Bhai Tika.
Along with Dayahang and Bijay, the film stars Samriddhi Aryal, Pashupati Rai, Maotse Gurung, Bholaraj Sapkota, Pradip Kumar Chaudhary (PK), and others in key roles.
Also featuring in the film are Srijana Subba, Rambabu Regmi, Yesheli Yonghang, Bijaya Adhikari, Pradip Dhakal, Pramod Agrahari, Labish Gadtoula, Sanjay Thapa, Raj Neupane, Raunak Singh, Kamal Devkota, Sunil Tamang, Santosh Giri, Kiran Chamling Rai, and Kundan Tharu.
The child artists in the film are Sujen Thapa and Saisha Gauchan.
The screenplay was written by Mahesh Dawadi, based on a story and edited by director Paudel himself.
The film is a presentation of Vrishav Siddhi Entertainment in association with Aanvi Films. Ashish H. Tamang and Shreeraj Karki are the producers. Pradip G. Dhami and Puskar B. Ghimire are the executive producers. Ram Bista is the line producer.
Mankrishna Maharjan handled the cinematography, Prashant Siwakoti composed the music, Samrat Basnet directed the action, and Pradeep Lama handled the choreography.
The film will be distributed in the Kathmandu Valley by DCN and outside the valley by Kuber Cine Distribution.
