Drone Usage for Harvesting Mangoes in South China
The mango harvesting season has begun in Baise city of South China. This year, instead of using traditional methods, farmers are gathering their produce with the help of modern technology.
Local farmers have started using drones to pick mangoes, saving both labor and time. According to Yang Xiang, a drone operator, "Previously, it used to take about 10 hours to harvest 10,000 kilograms of mangoes, but with the use of drones, the work is now completed in just 5 to 6 hours."
The use of smart devices in the agricultural sector has also increased. Technologies such as weather monitoring, soil moisture tracking, pest and disease identification, and early warning systems are being widely utilized in Chinese orchards.
Similarly, a 'fruit diameter measurement system' has been brought into use to monitor the growth stage of the mangoes, making production management more scientific. According to Liu Dehuan, chief agricultural expert at the Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, "These mangoes have been growing for about 100 days, but they are still small. We will increase irrigation, which could increase production by about 10%."
Baise is China's largest mango-producing region, where mango cultivation is carried out across approximately 88,000 hectares of land, and the peak production season is currently underway.
