Success Achieved in Constructing Access Road to Chilime Hydropower Project Tunnel

Kathmandu: Through the continuous coordination and round-the-clock efforts of the Nepali Army and concerned agencies, a significant breakthrough has been achieved in constructing the access road connecting Syabrubesi in Rasuwa to the tunnel of the Chilime Hydropower Project.

The road network leading to the tunnel area, which was disrupted by the flood in Rasuwa's Bhotekoshi on August 26, has thus been reconnected.

Overcoming severe geographical challenges, a 1,050-meter-long track was opened after three and a half days of tireless effort.

Previously accessible only by small helicopters, construction in this remote area began from the Syabrubesi side, where an excavator was initially used to clear a 550-meter stretch. Subsequently, to break through the remaining hard rock face, the Nepali Army carried out nine controlled blasts to complete the additional 500 meters of the track.

With the successful completion of the arduous rock-breaking and blasting operations, it is now possible to transport heavy machinery and essential materials directly to the mouth of the Chilime Hydropower Project tunnel.

As heavy equipment has already reached the site, the tunnel breakthrough is expected within the next day or two.
