Tamil Nadu House Witness Uproar After Direct Reference to Former Chief Minister

The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly witnessed heated scenes on Monday following a direct reference to former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi during house proceedings.

The disturbance occurred while Forest Minister Ranjith Kumar was addressing the assembly and mentioned the late DMK leader directly by name. Members of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) reacted strongly to the reference, launching a sharp protest on the floor.

The opposition members demanded that appropriate honorifics and respectful terms be used whenever referring to the former chief minister. As the protest escalated, the Assembly Speaker intervened and ordered the minister's controversial remarks to be expunged from the official record of the House, clarifying that the statement would not be archived in the official proceedings.

Attempting to diffuse the growing tension, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay issued a formal apology on behalf of his cabinet colleague. Addressing the House, the Chief Minister acknowledged that it was improper for the minister to refer to the former leader in that manner and expressed regret over the incident.
