80th Independence Day of Pakistan Celebrated in Kathmandu with National Fervor

KATHMANDU — The Embassy of Pakistan in Nepal celebrated the 80th Independence Day of Pakistan with a solemn flag-hoisting ceremony at the Chancery premises on August 14, 2026. Ambassador of Pakistan H.E. Mr. Mohammad Aamir Khan unfurled the national flag in the presence of members of the Pakistani community, Nepali friends, and embassy officials along with their families.

On the occasion, special messages from the top leadership of Pakistan were shared with the attendees. In his official message, President of Pakistan H.E. Mr. Asif Ali Zardari stressed that August 14 is a time to honor the sacrifices that led to the creation of the nation. Paying tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and key leaders of the Pakistan Movement, the President noted that independence is both a historic achievement and an ongoing responsibility. He emphasized Pakistan's active role in utilizing its diplomatic capital, geographic position, and communication channels to encourage regional dialogue and de-escalation.

Prime Minister of Pakistan H.E. Mr. Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reflected on the nation's journey of development and prosperity moving forward despite ongoing challenges. Commending the brave defense forces for securing the motherland, the Prime Minister highlighted the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement involving Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye as evidence of the country's strategic strength. He further reiterated that achieving lasting peace across South Asia hinges on resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.

Echoing these sentiments, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H.E. Mr. Mohammad Ishaq Dar emphasized Pakistan's significant progress guided by the core values of unity, faith, and discipline. He reaffirmed the nation's commitment to protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity through responsible statecraft, while acknowledging the courage and unwavering dedication of Pakistan’s armed forces, police, and paramilitary organizations.

Addressing the gathering directly, Ambassador Mohammad Aamir Khan paid tribute to the historic independence struggle of 1947 and the foundational sacrifices made by the nation's predecessors. He noted Pakistan's global diplomatic efforts in easing tensions across West Asia and expressed a firm resolve to stand united against any future challenges. Concluding his address, the Ambassador expressed a dedicated commitment to further expanding diplomatic and economic bilateral relations between Pakistan and Nepal, anchored in shared historical values and centuries-old civilizational links.
