Security Tightened for Nepal Premier League (NPL) Second Edition

Kirtipur (Kathmandu), 18 November: Over 1,500 security personnel have been deployed around the stadium for the second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).

Police Superintendent Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, who is leading the NPL security, stated that 1,223 personnel from the Nepal Police have been stationed in the stadium premises.

He further informed the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) that the total number of security personnel, including those from Traffic, Armed Police Force, and those arranged by CAN (Cricket Association of Nepal) itself, exceeds 1,500.

He mentioned that the security arrangements have been put in place considering the new structures prepared within the stadium premises and the growing cricket craze among Nepalese people.

"This time, arrangements have been made for spectators to enter through up to three gates on one side, which will prevent the crowding in a single spot like last year," he said.

The stadium is being monitored 24/7 through 42 CCTV cameras. Furthermore, drones are also being used for security surveillance this time.

Special attention has been paid to ensuring that individuals without tickets or entry passes do not congregate in front of the gates. Barbed wire has also been installed on the outer walls for this purpose.

Superintendent Bhattarai also informed that, in addition to the police, devices for investigation, security checks, and even dogs are being used to inspect the premises before the start of play each day.

He noted that traffic management poses a slight challenge as vehicles going to various departments of Tribhuvan University use the main road leading to the stadium.

Superintendent Bhattarai added that police have also been deployed to secure the players' movement between their residence and the stadium.
