Substitute player Ferran Torres emerged as the hero for Spain in the final. In the 106th minute, he scored the winning goal with a powerful strike, leaving goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez with no chance to save it. With this strike, Torres became only the fifth player in history to score in a World Cup final as a substitute, and he is the first to achieve this feat since Mario Götze in 2014. Additionally, he became the second Barcelona player to score in a World Cup final, following Andrés Iniesta in 2010.
