Nepal Rastra Bank to Mint 400 Million Units of Rs. 1 Coins
Kathmandu — Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has invited international tenders for the design, minting, supply, and delivery of 400 million units of Rs. 1 denomination coins.
The Currency Management Department of the central bank has solicited bids from pre-qualified security minting companies for these circulating coins.
According to NRB, the tender has been issued through an International Competitive Bidding (ICB) process using the 'Single-Stage, Two-Envelope' procedure. Interested pre-qualified companies can purchase the bidding documents until November 2, 2026, from either the Currency Management Department in Thapathali or the Mint Division in Babarmahal, Kathmandu. The document fee has been set at NPR 20,000, USD 131, or EUR 115.
NRB stated that a pre-bid meeting will be held on October 15 at 12:00 PM. Bidders must submit their sealed bids by 12:00 PM on November 3, and the bids will be opened on the same day at 1:00 PM. Participating companies are required to submit a bid security of at least USD 148,000 or its equivalent.
Through this minting and supply process, the central bank aims to manage its inventory of Rs. 1 coins required for regular circulation.
