Bhotekoshi Flood Update: 1,456 Bodies Recovered
Kathmandu: Following the devastating flood in Rasuwa's Bhotekoshi River, 1,456 bodies have been recovered as of 5:00 AM on Sunday.
Among these, 1,454 bodies were recovered from various districts: 236 in Rasuwa, 204 in Nuwakot, 73 in Dhading, 369 in Chitwan, 80 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 232 in Nawalparasi East, and 222 in Nawalparasi West. Additionally, 2 people passed away in Kathmandu during the course of medical treatment.
To identify the recovered bodies, necessary procedures including DNA sample collection were completed, and 1,334 bodies have been safely managed (buried) so far. A total of 3,407 DNA samples—1,330 from the deceased and 2,077 from relatives—have been collected for identification purposes. Furthermore, details of 1,430 unidentified bodies have been uploaded to the Nepal Police website.
So far, 7,975 police personnel have been deployed in the flood-affected areas for rescue, search, relief distribution, and body management operations. Search efforts are currently ongoing for the 4,718 individuals who remain missing. Meanwhile, 1,240 people are being accommodated across holding centers in various districts.
