Bhotekoshi Flood Update: 1,455 Bodies Recovered

Kathmandu. As of 8:00 AM on Thursday, 1,455 bodies have been recovered following the devastating flood in Rasuwa's Bhotekoshi river.

Among the recovered bodies, 236 were found in Rasuwa, 204 in Nuwakot, 73 in Dhading, 369 in Chitwan, 79 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 232 in Nawalparasi East, and 222 in Nawalparasi West—totaling 1,453. Additionally, 2 people died while undergoing medical treatment in Kathmandu.

To identify the bodies, necessary procedures have been completed, including DNA sample collection, and 1,334 bodies have been managed (safely buried under soil) so far. For identification purposes, a total of 3,396 DNA samples have been collected (1,330 from the deceased and 2,066 from relatives). Furthermore, details of 1,421 unidentified bodies have been uploaded to the Nepal Police website.

A total of 7,975 police personnel have been deployed in the flood-affected areas for rescue, search, relief distribution, and body management operations. Search efforts are currently ongoing for 4,718 missing individuals. Meanwhile, 1,234 people are currently being accommodated in holding centers across various districts.
