Nepali Film 'P.R.' Sells Distribution Rights in Japan, Audience Interest High

Kathmandu. The Nepali movie 'P.R.', scheduled for nationwide release in Nepal from December 12 (Mangsir 26), has sold its screening rights in Japan even before its premiere. The rights were purchased by Yuna Digital, a company that distributes films in Japan.

The film's director, Shovit Basnet, confirmed the news, stating that the film has been "sold out" for a good price for the Japanese market. He added, "We have sold this film for a good amount for Japan. Discussions are also underway with distributors in other countries, and we will share more information in a few days."

According to Director Basnet, 'P.R.' is based on an emotional story connected to love, struggle, and immigration. He believes that the high interest in the film among Nepalese audiences abroad stems from the story, which centers on the lives of children living overseas and the expectations their parents in Nepal have for them.

The production team indicated that following the sale of the rights in Japan, anticipation for 'P.R.' has grown among Nepali audiences in other countries as well. Previously, special screenings of the film were held in various cities in Australia, attracting thousands of viewers.

Meanwhile, the film's recently released song, 'Tata Bye Bye,' is gaining significant popularity on social media. The song reached trending status on YouTube within days of its release, and short videos using its lyrics and tune have become widespread on TikTok.

'P.R.' features performances by artists including Nir Shah, Gauri Malla, R.A. Suraj Paudel, Binita Karki, Rajan Kunwar, Pooja Chaudhary, and Ashma Adhikari. The film is presented by Ranjit Sah and Santosh Tiwari, with Laxman Sapkota and Pradip Dahal as producers. Ganesh Budhathoki penned the script, and R.R. Films is handling the distribution.
