164 Dead, Nearly 1,000 Injured After Twin Earthquakes Devastate Venezuela

At least 164 people have been killed after two consecutive powerful earthquakes struck Caracas —  Venezuela. According to Acting President Delcy Rodríguez, at least 971 people have been injured in the disaster.

La Guaira state, located north of the capital city Caracas, has been hardest hit by the earthquakes, with dozens of buildings collapsing. Currently, rescue workers are intensively engaged in search and rescue operations amid the rubble of collapsed structures across the capital city of Caracas and other affected areas.

Rescue workers reported hearing cries for help from people trapped under the debris in several locations. As rescue operations are still underway in the affected regions, the full extent of the damage is yet to be completely determined.
