New Management Takes Over Image Channel, Vows Stronger Multi-Platform Presence

Kathmandu – Nepal’s first private-sector television broadcaster, Image Channel Television, has officially transitioned to new management starting from the beginning of the Nepali month of Shrawan, 2082 (July 16, 2025). Alongside the TV station, Image FM 97.9 and ImageKhabar.com will also operate under the same new leadership.

Prominent media entrepreneur and CEO of Kamana Publications, Direkalal Shrestha, has assumed the role of Executive Chairman. Similarly, fellow media entrepreneur Cheng Agrawal has taken on the position of Managing Director. The new team has also appointed Jagadish Kharel, a long-time contributor since the channel’s inception, as the new Chief News Editor.

At a special ceremony held at the Image Channel office in Lazimpat, outgoing Chairman R.K. Manandhar formally handed over responsibilities to the new team. Speaking at the event, Manandhar expressed satisfaction in entrusting the leadership to a new generation of dynamic media professionals.

Executive Chairman Shrestha emphasized his commitment to uphold the legacy and integrity of Image Channel while driving it to new heights. He noted that his extensive experience in print media—both in Nepal and the U.S.—combined with the three-decade-long history of Image Channel, would guide the organization’s next chapter.

Chief News Editor Jagadish Kharel remarked that while TV viewership hasn’t declined, the mode of consumption has shifted. He stressed the importance of producing strong news content and integrating modern technologies into television journalism.

In a significant expansion, Image Channel will now be affiliated with Kamana Publications, Nepal’s first institutional publishing house, which has been in continuous operation since December 1984. The new management has pledged to deliver impactful and ethical journalism across all four platforms: television, radio, online, and print.
