Nepali Cricket Reaches New Heights, Says CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand
Kathmandu: Chatur Bahadur Chand, President of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), stated that Nepali cricket no longer has any reason to look back. Speaking at the jersey and trophy unveiling event on Monday, President Chand mentioned that Nepali cricket has already established itself at the international level.
He referred to Nepal’s journey in cricket starting from the 2014 World Cup in Bangladesh, highlighting that Nepal had qualified with an outstanding performance. At that time, 16 teams participated in the World Cup, while now there are 20 teams. “Nepal’s performance in the most recent World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA in 2024 has taken Nepali cricket to a new height,” he said.
He emphasized that winning and losing are part of the game and noted that Nepal’s performance against strong teams like Bangladesh and South Africa has made Nepali cricket’s presence felt on the world stage. “After that performance, the belief that Nepali cricket will rise further has strengthened,” Chand added.
President Chand also stressed the need for Nepali cricket to be prioritized by the general public, political parties, and the government. “The team has performed according to the expectations of the Nepali people. Now, institutional support from everyone is necessary to advance further,” he said.
Youth and Sports Minister Bablu Gupta also extended best wishes to the Nepali national team participating in the ICC T20 World Cup.
