Jari 2: Song of Chabrung' Team Urges Cinema Halls to Test Sound Levels Before Global Release
The highly anticipated film 'Jari 2: Song of Chabrung', set for a worldwide release this Friday (Kartik 21), has issued a directive to cinema hall operators regarding the film's sound level. On Thursday, the production team released a statement requesting all hall operators to conduct a test run prior to the commercial screening of the movie.
In the public statement, the production team said, "We have completed the sound mixing of 'Jari 2' in an immersive sound format, which allows audiences to experience the film with sound in Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, and Aura Max systems."
The mixing work for this film was done on Dolby's Fader Unit 5.8. Since the Sound Pressure Level (SPL) varies across every cinema hall operating nationwide, we request all cinema houses to perform a test run before beginning the commercial screening of this film.
Based on our previous experiences during film screenings, we have found that films are often screened in halls using different audio levels—processor units 3, 3.5, 4, or 4.5—which creates a situation where the sound of the same film varies from hall to hall. This makes it difficult to ascertain if the cinema hall's system is calibrated according to standards, potentially resulting in the film's sound being unnaturally loud or too low.
According to the Dolby standard, if a film's mixing is done on Fader Unit 7, the screening in the cinema hall should also be at Fader Unit 7. However, due to the practice of some halls lowering the volume (saying the sound is too high), films are often given loud mixing, which results in sound distortion and loss of quality. This practice is incorrect.
Considering all these factors, we have mixed 'Jari 2' at Dolby Fader Unit 5.8. Therefore, we humbly request all cinema halls to conduct a test run starting from a minimum volume unit 5 before the screening, and adjust the sound level accordingly if the sound seems too low or too high.
If our film is screened at units 3, 3.5, or 4, the sound may be too quiet, so we request that the standard volume level be maintained. Our goal is for the audience to enjoy 'Jari 2' with an excellent sound experience. We sincerely request all cinema halls for their technical support and coordination. Furthermore, Basuri Films will aim to provide the audience with a superior experience by mixing our future films at Fader Unit 7.
Separately, the film 'Jari 2: Song of Chabrung' has received its censorship clearance today. The Film Censor Board has granted it a Universal Certificate. With this certificate, audiences of all age groups will be able to watch the film easily. Officials who reviewed 'Jari 2' during the censoring process have given excellent feedback on the film, which is based on the Limbu community's story.
Written and directed by Upendra Subba, the film is produced by Rambabu Gurung, Madhu Mizar, and Jiwan Gurung. It stars Dayahang Rai, Miruna Magar, and Bijay Baral in lead roles.
Produced under the banners of Basuri Films and Kabaddi Films, the movie is expected to be a major commercial success this year. The cast also includes Buddhi Tamang, Richa Sharma, Puskar Gurung, Prem Subba, Maotse Gurung, Manahang Lawati, Bishnu Moktan, Kamalmani Nepal, Anil Subba, Rekha Limbu, Bedana Rai, and Sirjana Ninglekhu.
