New System Begins Printing Driving Licenses

Kathmandu. The government has officially started printing driving licenses using the Electronic Driving License and Vehicle Registration System (EDLVRS), which was implemented on Shrawan 1 (mid-July).

The Department of Transport Management, under the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, launched printing through the new system to address high service-seeker volume and long-standing printing delays.

The new system is designed to make the process of issuing new licenses and renewing old ones faster, easier, and more service-oriented. Under EDLVRS, applicants' details uploaded to the system are sent directly to the Security Printing Centre. The Security Printing Centre then prints the licenses and dispatches them via postal service to the respective Transport Management Service Offices. This mechanism is expected to resolve past issues in printing and distribution.

In the first phase, 3,081 driving licenses for Madhesh Province have been printed and sent via post to the relevant Transport Management Service Offices for distribution.

Under the current framework, provincial governments can enter into an agreement with the Security Printing Centre to manage their own license printing. Accordingly, the Madhesh Province government signed an agreement with Security Printing and is currently printing licenses under its own management. Similarly, the Lumbini Province government signed an agreement with Security Printing on Friday to initiate its license printing process.

In cases where a provincial government has not signed an agreement with the Security Printing Centre, printing is arranged through coordination between the Department of Transport Management and the Security Printing Centre to account for applicant volume and address ongoing challenges.

With the launch of license printing through this new system, provincial printing responsibilities are now structured to ensure applicants receive their driving licenses in an easy, fast, and timely manner.
