The Story of Conflict Between Dayahang and Bijay in ‘Baristha Balram’

Kathmandu – Actor Dayahang Rai has said that ‘Baristha Balram’ portrays a story of conflict between an established and a rising individual.

According to him, the film depicts the clash between a well-established person who tries to preserve his honor and reputation, and an emerging one striving to establish himself.

In ‘Baristha Balram’, Dayahang plays the role of an established character, while Bijay Baral portrays the rising challenger.

Dayahang explained that although a person’s inner self may differ, outwardly everyone wants to appear respectable and senior in society.

“No matter what kind of person one is, everyone wishes to look senior and prestigious in society — that’s human nature,” Dayahang said. “The movie revolves around this idea, and my character reflects it as well.”

He further added that the film shows the struggle between two individuals — one established, and the other seeking seniority — both competing to appear superior.

Actor Bijay Baral said that ‘Baristha Balram’ tells the story of an ordinary person’s desire to become senior and recognized. The clash of such ambitions forms the central theme of the film, he added.

Bijay mentioned that he plays the character “Bale,” who finds himself amid the confrontation between the two main characters, Dayahang and Bijay.

“The film’s title may hint at who Balram really is, but audiences will discover that after the trailer or upon the film’s release,” Bijay said. “In the movie, I am called Bale, so let’s not reveal yet who the real Baristha Balram is.”

He also shared that it was a bit challenging to act in confrontational scenes with senior actor Dayahang. “Since I respect him deeply, I used to ask, ‘Dai, how should I do this?’ He would say, ‘Don’t hesitate — just go for it,’ and then I would act accordingly,” he said. “As a junior, there’s naturally some hesitation when acting opposite a senior actor.”

However, Dayahang believes that on set, an actor’s character matters more than personal hierarchy. He recalled working with his mentor Anup Baral in a similar dynamic in ‘Dasdhunga’.

“He told me, ‘There’s no guru or student when you’re in character — this is your chance to express yourself,’” Dayahang shared. “You shouldn’t step above the character, nor hesitate to portray it fully.”

Actress Samriddhi Aryal stated that she is not merely a “showpiece” in the film but plays an impactful role between two powerful leads.

“Wherever I appear, my role has a meaningful impact,” she said. “My character influences both leading figures.”

She believes her role in ‘Baristha Balram’ will significantly support her acting career.
