Teaching Hospital to Withdraw from Government Health Insurance Program
Kathmandu: Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, the country’s leading government health institution, has decided to withdraw from the health insurance program.
The hospital administration announced that starting from Magh 1, all treatment services under the Nepal Government’s health insurance scheme will be discontinued.
The hospital stated that it has been incurring a monthly expense of over NPR 50 million, while only 50% of the claims submitted to the Insurance Board have been approved. So far, the hospital claims that nearly NPR 400 million is still pending from insurance claims.
Furthermore, the hospital highlighted a significant gap between its treatment rates and those recognized by the Insurance Board. Despite repeated appeals over the past two years, no resolution has been made.
The hospital has been covering daily expenses from its internal resources and has now stated that it can no longer sustain additional losses.
