Nepal and Norway Pledge Deeper Cooperation to Strengthen Healthcare
A meeting was held between the Minister for Health and Food Safety, Nisha Mehta, and the Ambassador of Norway to Nepal, Her Excellency Dagny Mjøs. The meeting took place at the Ministry on Thursday. According to the Ministry, the discussion focused on further strengthening bilateral relations between Nepal and Norway, as well as ongoing cooperation in the health sector.
During the meeting, they reviewed programs being implemented with the support of the Norwegian government in areas such as strengthening Nepal's health system, health information systems, mental health, health education, health research, maternal and child health, and the Female Community Health Volunteer (FCHV) programs.
Minister Mehta stated that keeping in mind Nepal's needs and the growing burden of disease, the government has prioritized health infrastructure development, digitalization of health services, climate change and public health, non-communicable diseases, strengthening mental health services, health tourism, and the herbal or medicinal plants sector. She expressed expectations for further collaboration with Norway in these specific areas.
Ambassador Mjøs expressed the Norwegian government's commitment to continuing its support in various sectors, including health, in accordance with the development priorities of the Government of Nepal. She also shared that preparations are underway to move forward with additional collaborative programs for Nepal.
Nepal and Norway have a long history of cooperation in various fields, including health, education, and sustainable development.
