Government Reaches Three-Point Agreement with Garima Chaudhary’s Parents: Commitment to Justice and Reconstruction

Kathmandu — The Government of Nepal and the victim's family have reached a three-point agreement regarding the heinous crime committed against three-year-old Garima Chaudhary of Jitpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-1, Bara district.

The agreement was signed on Saturday evening at the Ministry of Home Affairs following discussions among Home Minister Sudhan Gurung, ministers from related ministries, representatives of the government, and the parents of the victim, Garima Chaudhary.

As per the agreement, a seven-member "Garima Justice Resolve Committee" will be formed under the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs. To meet public expectations, the committee will review existing legal provisions regarding offenses and penalties for heinous crimes and submit a recommendation report for new legislation within seven days.

Additionally, the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, in coordination with the local government, will take the initiative to construct a statue of Garima Chaudhary in accordance with the victim family's wishes.

An agreement was also reached allowing the victim's parents to perform the final rites according to their traditional customs and rituals.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Government of Nepal by Home Minister Sudhan Gurung, Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal, Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sabita Gautam, Minister for Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities, and Social Security Sita Badi, and Minister for Agriculture, Forestry, and Environment Gila Chaudhary. On behalf of the victim's family, Garima Chaudhary’s father Manoj Kumar Chaudhary and mother Minmati Chaudhary signed the document.
