Initiative to Mitigate Health Worker Shortage: NRNA and AIU Uzbekistan Offer Full MBBS Scholarships to Two Nepali Students
Kathmandu. In a context where the lack of adequate human resources in the health sector is increasing the risk of patients losing their lives due to not receiving timely treatment, the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) and Asia International University (AIU), Uzbekistan, have jointly initiated a process to provide full scholarships for a six-year MBBS course to two Nepali students.
This initiative is considered significant at a time when challenges in providing effective health services are mounting across the country due to the shortage of medicines, equipment, and skilled health workers in primary health centers. The scholarship is specifically aimed at meritorious and economically weak students who have passed the Medical Education Commission (MEC) examination in Nepal.
The application process will remain open until December 23, 2025. The selection examination for the scholarship, based on Medical Education Commission (MEC) questions, will be conducted on January 3, 2026, at Pulchowk Engineering Campus (IOE), Lalitpur.
The two Nepali students who receive the scholarship will be required to return to Nepal and provide compulsory service in the health sector for a minimum of two years after completing their studies. Furthermore, the university will bear all expenses for the students, including tuition, food, and accommodation for the entire study period under the scholarship.
This initiative is expected to make a significant contribution to expanding healthcare access in Nepal and addressing the health worker shortage in the long term. It has been stated that detailed information regarding this will be made public again in the coming days.
