Government to Launch Nationwide HPV Vaccination Campaign
Kathmandu: The government is set to launch a nationwide "Human Papillomavirus" (HPV) vaccination campaign against cervical cancer starting from the last week of Magh. This program is being organized across the country according to the regular national immunization schedule.
The campaign aims to vaccinate three hundred and fifty thousand girls who are studying in Grade 6 and have completed 10 years of age. Last year, the government provided the vaccine to approximately 1.7 million girls studying from Grade 6 to Grade 10.
While the vaccine consisted of two doses last year, only a single dose will be administered this year. According to data from the Ministry of Health, it is estimated that an average of four women die every day in Nepal due to cervical cancer.
Among the various types of cancer found in women, cervical cancer is the primary cause of death.
