Nepali Youth Achieve Historic Success at Global Robotics Challenge in Geneva

Nepali youth have achieved a historic success on the global stage by drawing attention at the ‘AI for Good – Robotics for Good Youth Challenge 2025’ which was held on july 14. Organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Geneva, Switzerland, this competition under the ‘AI for Good Global Summit 2025’ saw two Nepali teams achieve extraordinary success.
In the junior category, Nepal’s team ‘Gautam Buddha’ performed excellently to secure the world’s second place, while in the senior category, the team ‘Sagarmatha’ succeeded in making it to the top 3 finalists. The competition featured over 7,000 participants from 25 countries and more than 500 teams, where the Nepali teams won everyone’s admiration with their presentation.
In the junior group, Nepal secured second place competing closely with Venezuela, which led by only 5 points. The Gautam Buddha team comprised Aarav Gautam and Paridhi Shrestha from United School, Riddhi Manandhar from Samriddhi School, and Anupam Bhujel from KMC School. The team was coached by Rishav Raj and Kiran Khatri from the Robotics Association of Nepal (RAN).
Similarly, the senior group’s ‘Sagarmatha’ team included Prabin Shrestha from Banepa NIST, Sampana KC from Trinity International College, and Shreyash Acharya also from Trinity International college. They were trained by Santosh Thapa Magar.
Both teams were selected through the national-level ‘Robotics for Good Youth Challenge – Nepal,’ coordinated by the Robotics Association of Nepal (RAN). The senior competition was held on Jestha 15 at Kathmandu Engineering College, Kalimati, and the junior competition at United School, Gwarko, Lalitpur.
To ensure the success of the competition, United School, Xavier Academy, Kathmandu Engineering College, Trinity International College, Banepa NIST, Global Reach Nepal, Shivshakti Ed-Tech Mart, the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, Honorable Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung, and the Nepali Embassy in Switzerland played important roles.
A special highlight of the summit was the continuous support provided to the Nepali teams by the Honorable Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung. From the inauguration to the finals, he encouraged the teams. Minister Gurung expressed the ministry’s commitment to always support young talents, saying that the youth’s talent and innovative capability have strengthened Nepal’s identity on the global stage.
At a special dinner hosted by His Excellency Ram Prasad Suvedi, Ambassador of Nepal to Switzerland, the Nepali teams were honored. Dr. Shaligram Parajuli, Information Technology Advisor to the Ministry of Communication, played a key role in the overall management.
Focusing on the theme ‘Disaster Response and Resilience,’ this year’s summit saw participation from youth representing more than 60 countries. The passion, talent, and innovation demonstrated by the Nepali teams have brought pride and a remarkable success to all Nepalis.
