CAN Federation and Leadership Honored for Contributions to ICT Skill Development
Kathmandu. The Government of Nepal has honored the Computer Association of Nepal Federation (CAN Federation) and its top leadership for their transformative contributions to the development of Nepal's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector, digital literacy, and the production of skilled manpower.
The recognition was bestowed during a special ceremony organized in Bhaisepati, Lalitpur, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the National Vocational Training Academy (NVTA) under the Ministry of Labour, Employment, and Social Security.
During the ceremony, the CAN Federation was honored institutionally, while two of its officials received letters of appreciation and commendation on behalf of the government.
Senior Vice President Chiranjibi Adhikari was honored for laying the foundation of professional ICT training and his leadership role, and General Secretary Chandra Bilas Bhurtel was recognized for his commendable work as the coordinator of the Curriculum Drafting Subcommittee.
Minister for Labour, Employment, and Social Security Rajendra Singh Bhandari, Labour Secretary and Chairman of the NVTA Development Committee Dr. Deepak Kafle, and Executive Director of the Academy Ramesh Kumar Bakhati jointly presented the honors to the Federation.
The concept of 'Skills in Hands' (Hatmaai Seep), initiated by Senior Vice President Adhikari during his tenure as General Secretary, is considered the primary basis for this recognition.
His vision of moving beyond traditional certificate-oriented education to integrate soft skills and professional technical skills has focused the industry's attention on ensuring individuals are not just certified, but necessarily qualified. According to the Federation, this has ensured that Nepalese trainees acquire practical skills aligned with industry standards.
In the fiscal year 2081/82, two fundamental skill-based computer curricula were developed through collaboration between NVTA and the CAN Federation to address labor market demands. These programs were designed with the aim of directly linking the production of skilled manpower with economic needs and employment.
Upon receiving the honor, the CAN Federation expressed its commitment to playing an even stronger role in skill development and job creation within the IT sector in partnership with the government. The Federation aims to further expand its programs to enable the Nepalese workforce to compete in the global digital economy.
