Warning to Government by Alliance of Parties and Organizations
Kathmandu. Expressing serious concern over the existing political, social, and security situation in the country, three parties affiliated with the Federal Republican Alliance, the United Citizens Party, and the National Christian Federation Nepal have jointly drawn the government's attention.
On Wednesday, the Alliance, the United Citizens Party, and the Christian Federation held a joint press conference in Kathmandu to present their views and demands to the government, drawing attention to contemporary events across the country, increasing insecurity among religious minorities, Dalit, and Nishad communities, and challenges observed in the democratic process.
A stern warning was issued to the government, drawing serious attention to the planned and increasing attacks on religious minorities, Dalit, and Nishad communities recently, the deteriorating peace and security situation, and the state's weak and passive role regarding such incidents.
"It is clearly visible that some extremist, anti-social, and criminal elements have recently been plotting to disrupt social harmony, increase religious and ethnic polarization, and push the country toward unrest by systematically and repeatedly attacking religious minorities, Dalit, and Nishad communities.
We conclude that such activities are not only criminal but are also serious attempts to create political instability, weaken the republican system, and push the country toward anarchy against the spirit of the constitution," the joint statement said.
In particular, it was concluded that the incident on January 4 (Poush 20) in Kamala Municipality-6 of Dhanusha district, where individuals forcibly entered a mosque, burned the holy Quran, destroyed Islamic scriptures, and vandalized the mosque and property of local residents, is an extremely serious, reprehensible, and anti-constitutional act.
The statement said, "Our conclusion is that this incident has directly harmed the religious freedom guaranteed by the constitution, social harmony, and the life and security of the religious minority community."
At the press conference, the coordinator of the alliance and former Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mohammad Rizwan Ansari, warned that the country would head toward tension, stating that the state's failure to take strict action against the masterminds and perpetrators of such incidents raises serious questions about the government's administrative capacity.
He stated that in the current situation, a free, fair, and fearless general election scheduled for March 5 (Phagun 21) would not be possible, and concluded that a serious crisis would arise in the democratic process if peace and security cannot be ensured before the election.
Similarly, since the holy festival of the Muslim community, Ramadan, begins on February 18 (Phagun 6) and lasts until March 20 (Chaitra 6), involving a month-long fast (Roza), it was demanded that the election date be postponed, keeping in mind the reality that it would be extremely difficult to participate in the election, campaign, and vote while fasting all day during that period.
A demand has been made to the Government of Nepal to postpone the election date scheduled for March 5 (Phagun 21) by one month and set it for March 21 (Chaitra 7). It was stated that if the state ignores these demands, they will be forced to engage in a peaceful but powerful and phased political movement.
The Nepal Federal Socialist Party, Bahujan Ekta Party, Nepal Janajagriti Party, United Citizens Party, and National Christian Federation Nepal, all affiliated with the alliance, jointly issued the press release at the press conference.
