Election Commission Receives 23 Complaints Regarding Code of Conduct Violations

Kathmandu. The Election Commission has announced that 23 complaints have been registered since the election code of conduct came into effect. Among these, clarifications have already been sought from 12 concerned individuals and organizations.

During a regular press conference held at the Commission on Sunday, spokesperson and joint secretary Narayan Prasad Bhattarai informed that responses have been received for 12 of the complaints where clarifications were requested.

According to him, the Commission adopted the process of first seeking clarifications because, under legal provisions, action cannot be taken without providing an opportunity for defense.

"Out of the complaints received, there are 23 cases. In these instances, the process of asking for clarifications from the relevant individuals and organizations has taken place. Twelve responses have already arrived. The Commission must mandatorily ask for a clarification before taking action. If a satisfactory answer is received, they are cleared," Bhattarai said. "If the response is not satisfactory, action will be taken."

Furthermore, he informed that the Commission has released a separate email address to register complaints and grievances regarding election code of conduct violations backed by facts. According to spokesperson Bhattarai, arrangements have been made so that complaints and grievances can be sent to the Commission via the email "[email protected]".

He stated, "On behalf of the Commission, we have made an email address public for filing fact-based complaints regarding the election code of conduct. '[email protected]' is the email arranged by the Commission for registering complaints and grievances."
