Madhav Nepal Urges Government to Focus on Disaster Response, Not Criticism

Janakpur — Madhav Kumar Nepal, Co-coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party and former Prime Minister, has said that the country is currently facing a crisis. He said that, at this critical time, rather than criticizing the government, it is necessary to provide the government with constructive advice and suggestions.

Speaking at a unity meeting and training program organized in Janakpurdham on Sunday, Co-coordinator Nepal said that he has been closely monitoring the government’s work. He said that he has provided the government with necessary suggestions to address the problems amid the difficult circumstances.

Nepal said he had advised the government to search for missing people and recover buried bodies and hand them over to their families. 

He also drew the government’s attention to reports that bodies had been found after being swept into India, urging it to pay attention to the issue. He pledged that his party would support the government in relief distribution and in assisting people affected by the crisis.

Nepal also suggested that the government should start making preparations from now on to remain ready to face similar disasters in the future. Recalling that during his tenure as prime minister, a Cabinet meeting was held at Mount Everest as an example of the importance of climate protection, Nepal emphasized the need to protect nature.

Nepal instructed party leaders and cadres to go down to the ward level and inform people about the work his party had carried out in the past. Admitting that the party had fallen short in publicity and outreach, he said they would now go to the people, document the work carried out by him and his party, and make the public aware of it.
