US Issues Emergency Travel Advisory for Middle East Amid Rising Military Tensions
Kathmandu — Amid escalating military tensions in the Middle East, the United States has issued an emergency travel advisory urging its citizens to "immediately depart" from more than a dozen Middle Eastern countries. The U.S. State Department stated that security risks have become severe following coordinated airstrikes by the U.S. and Israel on Iran, and Iran's subsequent retaliatory attacks targeting American allies in the Gulf region.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio released a video message via the social media platform X, stating that the safety of American citizens in the Middle East is the top priority. He urged citizens to register with the STEP system, monitor travel advisories, and contact emergency numbers available 24/7 if necessary.
Assistant Secretary of State for Consular Affairs Mora Namdar also issued a separate message urging citizens to leave immediately via commercial flights from countries including Bahrain, Kuwait, Egypt, Lebanon, Iran, Oman, Iraq, Qatar, Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. The advisory, updated at 4:00 PM EST on March 2, cites a "serious security risk" in those nations.
Meanwhile, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed that six American soldiers were killed during the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. According to CENTCOM, the bodies of two soldiers missing from a military installation hit during Iran's initial attack were recently recovered. The identities of the deceased will be released only after their families have been notified.
In the background, on February 28, the U.S. and Israel launched joint airstrikes targeting military command centers, air defense systems, missile sites, and critical infrastructure in various Iranian cities. It is claimed that four senior military and security officials, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, were killed in those attacks. Major explosions were reported in the capital, Tehran, and other primary cities.
In response, Iran stated it launched ballistic missile and drone attacks targeting American assets and allies in Israel, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan. This has led to assessments that the conflict in the Middle East has expanded further, increasing risks to the safety of civilians and foreign nationals.
In this context, U.S. President Trump stated that military action will continue with the goal of ending Iran's missile capabilities, nuclear ambitions, and support for terrorism. — ANI
