"Trust in Iran is Waning": Trump

Kathmandu — US President Donald Trump has stated that his trust in Iran is gradually declining. He accused Iranian officials of repeatedly violating their commitments despite making promises during negotiations.

Addressing a Cabinet meeting held at Camp David, Trump said it has become difficult to trust Iran because it fails to keep its word. "They lie and distort facts. They always want to negotiate, but they break their word time and again," Trump said.

Despite his harsh criticism, he clarified that high-level dialogue between the United States and Iran remains ongoing. He informed that Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Senior Advisor Jared Kushner, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are key members of the negotiating team. "Our best people are involved in the talks," Trump said.

Discussing regional security challenges, he mentioned an attack on a US military base in Jordan during the course of the talks. He stated that he had received information regarding the incident from US defense officials. When asked about the possibility of further attacks by Iran or its proxy groups, Trump did not rule it out entirely.

"It would be foolish to say there is no such possibility. We must always remain vigilant," he said. However, claiming that Iran's long-term capabilities are weakening, Trump commented that although it may appear somewhat strong now, its influence will wane over time.

Trump's remarks come at a time when diplomatic talks between Washington and Tehran regarding Iran's nuclear program and Middle East security are ongoing. ANI
