Bus Fire: Police Search for Deceased Person's Identity, Relatives Yet to Make Contact

Kathmandu. The identity of the person who died after burning in a bus fire at Tripureshwor on Monday has not yet been established.

According to Naresh Raj Subedi, Information Officer at the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, necessary investigations regarding the driver's identity and address are underway following his death.

"The relatives of the deceased have not come into contact either. The individuals who contacted us yesterday are also out of touch today. We are continuously investigating and will determine the identity by the end of today," Subedi said.

Based on a driving license found on the victim, police initially suspected the individual to be 25-year-old Dawa Lama of Kavre. However, after a person named Dawa Lama publicly announced that he was safe, police intensified their investigation.

Police stated that the person identifying himself as Dawa Lama on social media has been called to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office in Ramshahpath, and individuals associated with the bus are also being actively traced.

The fire broke out on Monday afternoon near the Tripureshwor bus stop in a Riddhisiddhi Yatayat bus with registration number Ba 5 Kha 4274.

Prior to the fire, a dispute had occurred between the driver and traffic police. The police had shared information with the media based on the driving license recovered from the driver, but it is now suspected that the license was being misused.

Police reported that the driver, who was injured in the fire, passed away on Monday evening while undergoing treatment at Kirtipur Hospital (Burn Hospital).
