Passenger Train Catches Fire in Bihar, India

Kathmandu: A fire broke out in the engine and an adjacent coach of a passenger train in the Saharsa district of Bihar, India, on Monday morning. Authorities stated that passengers were immediately evacuated safely, and no casualties were reported.

The fire started in the engine of the Samastipur–Saharsa passenger train (No. 63344) at around 3:40 AM at the Simri Bakhtiyarpur railway station. According to Niranjan Kumar, Assistant Fire Officer of the Saharsa Fire Department, a team equipped with foam tenders and water tenders was dispatched to the scene immediately upon receiving information about the fire in the train's engine.

The fire has now been brought under control.

"Upon receiving information that the train engine caught fire, a rescue team was immediately deployed. The fire is now under control, and so far, there is no report of any human casualties," he said.

A passenger onboard shared that the fire broke out around 3:40 AM, causing severe inconvenience to travelers. Following the incident, passengers were left stranded, and train services were also impacted.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Concerned authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

Earlier in May, a fire had also broken out in the empty coaches of the Jaynagar–Udhna Antyodaya Express parked at the Madhubani railway station in Bihar. That fire, which occurred during shunting at the platform, had completely destroyed one coach. (ANI)
