Theme Song of ‘Gunyu Cholo: The Dress’ Released
Kathmandu – The theme song of the film ‘Gunyu Cholo: The Dress’ has been released. The song, which reflects the story of the film, is written by Lekhu Sahayatri, with lyrics by Samundra Bhatta and Rekha Panta, and vocals by Ketan Kshetri. Bisham Acharya has also contributed to the song.
The song portrays the harsh reality where people are denied dignity due to their different gender identities. It highlights a society that refuses to accept third-gender individuals as human beings.
The lyrics depict the societal tendency to treat a child born as third-gender from the same mother as if they came from a different planet. It also reflects the struggles of third-gender individuals to be treated as human beings.
‘Gunyu Cholo: The Dress’ is set to release on Bhadra 13 (August 29). Directed by Samundra Bhatta, the film tells the story of a gender minority and a paralingual character.
The film features Nazir Hussen in the lead role, portraying a paralingual woman (trans woman).
Alongside Nazir, Sanchita Luintel, Sushil Sitoula, Rajkumar Ghosh, Shishir Rana, Anupam Shrestha, and Bishal Pahari also play significant roles.
This is Nepal’s first full-length trans story film, and its international distribution rights have been acquired by Buffalo Atley, USA.
All post-production work of the film has been done abroad. Editing, color grading, mixing, sound design, and background music have been produced in Hollywood style.
Hollywood artist Lisa Gerrard has lent her voice to the film, while Marcelo di Francisci has composed the entire background music. Lisa had previously provided vocals for the Hollywood film ‘Gladiator–2’.
The film is a joint collaboration between a Nepali film production house and a Hollywood film production house. The film is funded by Akash Budhathoki and V-Bhanse Janubon, with Jeffrey J. Wayne and Steve Johnston as executive producers, and Anupam Shrestha as co-producer.
The cinematography is by Alok Shukla, and the song lyrics are by Lekhu Sahayatri. The film was also selected at the prestigious CineMart Film Market in the USA.
