San Francisco Officially Proclaims April 14 as "Nepali New Year"
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Mayor Daniel Lurie has officially declared April 14, 2026, as Nepali New Year in the City and County of San Francisco, honoring the vibrant cultural heritage and contributions of the Nepalese community.
The formal proclamation recognizes the start of the year 2083 in the Bikram Sambat calendar, describing it as a significant period of renewal, gratitude, and unity. Mayor Lurie highlighted the "vibrant traditions" of the diaspora, noting how celebrations like Bisket Jatra bring families together through music, dance, and community spirit.
The city also took the opportunity to praise the Nepalese in Bay Area organization and the local community for their impact on San Francisco’s "social, cultural, and economic fabric." From entrepreneurship and professional milestones to civic engagement, the proclamation credits the Nepalese diaspora with helping the city thrive.
A key highlight of the recognition was the annual Nepal Day Parade, which draws hundreds of visitors to the city streets to celebrate diversity and cultural exchange. By honoring this day, San Francisco reaffirms its commitment to inclusivity and celebrates the resilience and heritage of its Nepalese residents.-1775975605.jpg)
