Final Preparations Underway for San Francisco Nepal Day Parade

Preparations for the Nepal Day Parade, scheduled for Sunday, May 10, in San Francisco, California, have reached the final stages. Officials from the organizing committee stated that necessary permits from government agencies and other arrangements have been completed for the parade, which is being organized by the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) California Chapter.
The parade will start from San Francisco City Hall and cover a distance of 1.6 miles to Embarcadero Plaza. The City of San Francisco has closed vehicle traffic on Market Street, located in the heart of the city, and made it available for pedestrians for the duration of the parade.
KP Dhakal, President of the NRNA California Chapter, mentioned that the streets will be filled with a Nepali atmosphere through the display of various traditional costumes and cultural tableaus. Officials from local organizations have coordinated with city authorities regarding the detailed format of the event and made necessary arrangements. They have provided information about the event's framework through a video after inspecting the route from City Hall to Market Street and the stage site at Embarcadero Plaza.
The NRNA decided to hold the parade in San Francisco on December 25, 2025. Following the NRNA's request, the City of San Francisco approved the permit for the parade on March 8. Materials for the parade, including Nepali flags and flyers, have already arrived from Nepal.
Gyankaji Lama, General Secretary of the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities California USA, stated that people are preparing to participate individually and under the banners of various organizations, showcasing ethnic identities and costumes. According to Lama, the parade will feature displays of culture and attire reflecting Nepal's diversity.
NRNA Secretary Kailash KC informed that final preparations are underway for the participation of various organizations with tableaus including Panche Baja (five Traditional Musical Instruments), Panchakanya (Five young girls), the sound of Shankha (conch shells), Kumari (The Living Goddess), Dhime (Traditional Newari Drum), and Lakhe (Masked Demon Dancer). There will also be cultural performances during the formal program on stage. Along with songs and dances by local youth, some national-level Nepali artists will also participate.
Diplomatic officials from other consulates in San Francisco, mayors from the Bay Area, and city council members will also attend the parade. The Consulate General of Nepal in San Francisco is coordinating these invitations. The NRNA parade is being held under the patronage of the Consulate General of Nepal in San Francisco and in collaboration with the Nepalese Community Center and the Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities. NRNA President Dhakal stated that all organizations in the Bay Area will participate through the coordination of these entities.
