Demand for Immediate Action Against Hospital Attackers

Kathmandu: Nepali Congress General Secretary and former Health Minister Pradip Paudel has strongly condemned the series of attacks and mistreatment against healthcare workers at Palata Hospital in Kalikot.

On Saturday, expressing his views via social media, he stated that at a time when sending healthcare personnel to remote areas is already difficult, it is sad and concerning that doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff serving citizens in far-flung places are unsafe at their own workplace.

"The series of attacks and mistreatment of healthcare workers at Palata Hospital in Kalikot is highly condemnable," he said. "On one hand, it is difficult to deploy healthcare personnel to remote areas; on the other hand, it is extremely sad and concerning that doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers serving citizens in remote regions with their lives on the line are unsafe at their own workplace."

He demanded an immediate investigation into the incident where attackers entered the hospital premises and urged legal action against those responsible.

"Let there be an immediate investigation into the incident where attackers breached the hospital premises, and let action be taken against the guilty according to the law," he added. "When the lives of those who save citizens are put at risk, the government must show greater seriousness and sensitivity in managing peace and security. A safe and fear-free working environment must be ensured for all healthcare workers."

Paudel stressed that it is a grave matter when the lives of healthcare workers—who are dedicated to saving others—are placed in danger, emphasizing that the government needs to demonstrate heightened seriousness and sensitivity regarding law and order.
