Rudra Shrees Magar to Receive National Kaura Conservation Journalism Award

Pokhara – Journalist Rudra Shrees Magar from Pokhara will be honored with the National Indigenous Kaura Conservation Journalism Award 2082. A five-member selection committee led by MB Aastha Magar, central vice-president of the Nepal Magar Journalists Association, recommended Shrees Magar for the award.

According to Suraj Thapa Magar, President of the Magar Journalists Association Kaski, the award will be presented on Shrawan 1 during a program organized by the association in collaboration with the National Indigenous Kaura Conservation Committee Nepal.

This year, the award amount has been increased to NPR 15,000. The award, established in 2075 BS, is presented annually to journalists contributing to the preservation and promotion of the Magar community’s language, art, religion, customs, culture, and Kaura tradition.

Previous awardees include Kamala Rana Magar (Nawalpur), Tilak Pun Purja (Kaski), Pratap Rana Magar (Tanahun), MB Aastha (Kaski), Manoj Gharti Magar (Kaski), Khem Saru Magar (Palpa), and Sarada Jhendhi Magar (Nawalpur).Shrees Magar, who has been active in journalism for 19 years, began his career in 2063 BS with Prithakyatra, a literary bimonthly magazine. He currently serves as the Executive Editor of Fewa Television and Editor of Kaski Aawaj Daily.

He has previously received several honors including the Jagannath Sigdel Memorial Youth Encouragement Journalism Award, Tirtha Sagar Subedi Memorial Journalism Award, Karma-Karna Indigenous Journalism Award, and Magar Cultural Journalism Honor.

He also holds key positions as the Gandaki Province In-Charge of the Federation of Indigenous Nationalities Journalists (FoNIJ) and the Central Deputy General Secretary of the Nepal Magar Journalists Association.
