Bhote Koshi Flood Update: 1,403 Bodies Recovered

Kathmandu: As of 8:00 AM on Wednesday, 1,403 bodies have been recovered following the devastating flood in Rasuwa's Bhote Koshi River.

Among these, 1,401 bodies were retrieved across eight districts: 193 in Rasuwa, 202 in Nuwakot, 72 in Dhading, 364 in Chitwan, 78 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 232 in Nawalparasi East, and 222 in Nawalparasi West. Additionally, two individuals passed away while undergoing treatment in Kathmandu.

To aid in identifying the recovered bodies, procedures including DNA sample collection have been conducted, and 1,235 bodies have been temporarily managed (buried safely underground) so far. A total of 3,190 DNA samples—1,286 from the deceased and 1,904 from relatives—have been collected for identification purposes. Furthermore, details of 1,361 unidentified bodies have been uploaded to the Nepal Police website.

A force of 7,975 police personnel has been deployed across the flood-affected areas for search and rescue, relief distribution, and body management operations. Search efforts are currently ongoing for 4,089 missing persons.

Additionally, 2,084 people are currently being accommodated in holding centers across various districts.
