Press Release by Returnee Federation Nepal: Serious Concerns Over Losses and Casualties in Street Protests

Kathmandu, Bhadra – Returnee Federation Nepal has expressed serious concern over the extensive damage and loss of life during the street protest organized by NBL–Sh youth on Bhadra 23, demanding freedom of social media, a corruption-free state, good governance, and an advanced administrative system. The protest resulted in significant destruction to key state institutions, including Singha Durbar, the Supreme Court, the Parliament Building, the President and Prime Minister’s offices, political party offices, private businesses, and other government structures across the country.

According to the Federation, approximately 30 youths have lost their lives, and many others were injured during the protests. Condemning the tragic loss of life, the Federation extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and urged authorities to ensure free medical treatment and immediate support for the injured.

The press release also highlighted concerns that infiltrators carried out destructive acts during an otherwise peaceful protest and demanded an impartial investigation and strict action against those responsible. Furthermore, following the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, the Federation urged the formation of a new government in accordance with the Constitution to restore peace, stability, and good governance, while safeguarding the republic, federalism, and inclusivity.

Acknowledging the patriotism and positive political engagement of the protesting youth, the Federation appealed to all parties to remain vigilant so that reactionary and anti-constitutional forces do not benefit from the movement.
