Appeal for All Citizens to Remain Responsible in Maintaining Social and Religious Harmony

Kathmandu — Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki has urged all citizens to remain restrained and responsible in order to maintain social and religious harmony in the country.

In a video message, he stated that Nepal is a beautiful country with a glorious history of unity in diversity. He mentioned that despite differences in religion, language, ethnicity, and culture, Nepalis have long lived in peaceful coexistence with mutual respect, tolerance, and harmony.

He said, "Nepal is a beautiful country with a proud history of unity in diversity. Amidst differences in religion, language, ethnicity, and culture, we have been living together with mutual respect, tolerance, and harmony."

He emphasized that unity in diversity is Nepal's identity, pride, and strength.

He further added, "Unity in diversity is our identity, pride, and strength. However, it is unfortunate that recently, activities disrupting religious harmony and creating an atmosphere of fear and panic have been observed, particularly in some parts of the eastern Terai."

He stated that it is disheartening to see activities in recent times—especially in certain locations of the eastern Terai—that disrupt religious harmony and create fear among the general public.

He noted that spreading rumors on social media, making inflammatory statements, or engaging in illegal activities that impact social unity serves no one's interest. He stressed that such actions only breed tension, mistrust, and division in society.

IGP Karki urged everyone to choose the path of wisdom, restraint, and harmony over rumors, provocation, and hatred during sensitive situations. Furthermore, he emphasized that respecting each other's rights, beliefs, and dignity is the shared responsibility of all citizens.
