Bhotekoshi Flood Update: 1,457 Bodies Recovered
Kathmandu. By 6:00 PM on Saturday, 1,457 bodies have been recovered following the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River of Rasuwa.
Among the recovered bodies, 236 were found in Rasuwa, 205 in Nuwakot, 73 in Dhading, 369 in Chitwan, 80 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 232 in Nawalparasi (East), and 222 in Nawalparasi (West), totaling 1,455. Additionally, 2 people died in Kathmandu while undergoing treatment.
To identify the recovered bodies, procedures including DNA sample collection have been conducted, and 1,335 bodies have been safely managed (buried underground) so far. For identification purposes, a total of 3,427 DNA samples have been collected—1,337 from the bodies and 2,090 from relatives. Among these, DNA profiling has been completed for 3,387 samples, comprising 1,312 from bodies and 2,075 from relatives. Furthermore, details of 1,438 unidentified bodies have been uploaded to the Nepal Police website.
A total of 7,975 police personnel have been deployed to the flood-affected areas for rescue operations, search efforts, relief distribution, and body management. Search operations are currently underway for 4,720 missing individuals. Likewise, 1,231 people have been accommodated in holding centers across various districts.
