Actions to be Taken Against Hotels Charging Excessive Prices and Serving Substandard Food
Kathmandu: Action will be taken against hotels and restaurants that feed substandard food and charge high prices to passengers traveling in public transportation.
The Department of Transport Management has issued a public notice alerting public vehicle drivers, hotel and restaurant entrepreneurs, and passengers regarding this matter.
According to the department, the notice was issued after receiving complaints that hotels and restaurants providing snacks, breakfast, and meals to passengers suffer from a lack of hygiene, serve stale and fly-infested food, provide low-quality meals, and charge exorbitant prices.
The department has urged drivers of public vehicles to stop only at hotels and restaurants that offer clean, hygienic, and quality food for passenger refreshments and meals. Wherever possible, drivers have been asked to prioritize hotels and restaurants displaying the food hygiene sticker issued by the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control.
The department stated that if a passenger falls ill due to the quality of the food, strict action will be taken against the concerned vehicle driver and hotel or restaurant operator in accordance with prevailing laws. The department also mentioned that relevant authorities are keeping close supervision over this matter.
Furthermore, the department has appealed to passengers to call the Nepal Police helpline number 100 if they find a compromise in food cleanliness and quality or if there is price fraud at hotels and restaurants.
Passengers can also lodge complaints or share information with the respective District Administration Office, District Police Office, District Traffic Police Office, or the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control and its nearest subordinate offices, according to the department.
