Random Readers Society Discusses Karnali in Pokhara
Pokhara — Random Readers Society organized a literary discussion in Pokhara focusing on writer Madhab Chaulagai’s book “Sapadalakshya Karnali.” The program highlighted Karnali’s lifestyle, culture, language, geography, and socio-economic realities.
Speaking at the event chaired by society president Rupindra Prabhavi, commentator Bhawana Pokharel said that despite developmental challenges caused by geographical remoteness and state neglect, public interest in Karnali is growing. She described the region as the cultural foundation of the Khas civilization, rooted in Sinja Valley, and called it a symbolic homeland for all Nepalese.
Author Chaulagai emphasized the need to change the stereotypical notion of labeling every remote region as “Karnali.” He argued that Karnali represents a rich civilization beyond administrative boundaries and is full of potential. He also criticized the concentration of federal budgets in only a few districts under Karnali’s name.
Literary figure Sarubhakta shared his personal experiences of visiting Karnali and expressed optimism about the region’s brighter future. Other speakers including Meghnath Kunwar, Suresh Ranabhat, Bidyabimal Baral, Dilli Prasad Dhungana, Resham Giri, Roshan Taligothyal, Khim Lamichhane, Dr. Ramchandra Baral, and Bhanubhakta Pokharel also shared their views.
The program was conducted by Society Secretary Nepal Prakash Adhikari. Random Readers Society has been organizing monthly intellectual discussions on books and contemporary issues.
