Prithvi Jayanti and International Nepali Day Celebrated in Australia

On the occasion of Prithvi Jayanti, Nepalis in Australia have celebrated Prithvi Jayanti and 'International Nepali Day'. The Nepali community here remembered Prithvi Narayan Shah with various programs in major cities of all states, including Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide, and Brisbane.

A seminar on the contribution of Prithvi Narayan Shah was organized at the popular Nepali restaurant 'Flavors of Nepal' in Granville, Sydney. The event included a garland ceremony along with a seminar featuring intellectuals from the Australian Nepali community.

Madan Mani Adhikari, from the Australian Nepali community platform NepaliPage, stated that while Prithvi Jayanti in Sydney is usually celebrated with hundreds of people gathering in open parks, it was held in the restaurant's event hall this time due to the weather.

The program, which began by offering garlands to the portrait of Prithvi Narayan Shah, featured youth activist and businessman Deepak Paudel, who said, "There is no need for debate regarding the creator of the nation of Nepal." He mentioned that a major problem in Nepal's politics is that some political parties have made futile attempts to erase history as if they created everything themselves, which he believes will cause great trouble for Nepal and Nepalis.

He also expressed anger that Nepal government bodies did not organize any programs. NRN activist and youth leader of the Nepali community, Dila Kharel, said that the ability to walk with one's head held high in Australia as a Nepali is a significant matter in itself.

Nepali journalist in Australia, Hemanta Kafle, stated that the future falls into darkness when history is forgotten, and argued that Prithvi Jayanti should be celebrated as a great festival. He expressed gratitude to the Great King Prithvi Narayan Shah as the initiator of Nepali unity, whose contribution allows everyone to be called Nepali.

He said, "At a time when we are being divided on the basis of various isms, parties, and principles, this day reminds us of how we were united like one family three hundred years ago to build the country and our identity."

During the program, youth activist Dharvendra Yadav stated that the nation-builder Prithvi Narayan Shah is the reason for the identity of Nepal and Nepalis, adding that even while living in Australia, his contribution will always allow them to be called and remain Nepalis.

Madan Mani Adhikari of the organizing committee stated that because they are recognized in the world as Nepalis, the day of Prithvi Jayanti has been celebrated in Australia as 'International Nepali Day'.

Community leaders in Sydney, including Yam Dhital, Rajesh KC, and Bije Shah, delivered speeches during the event. The Australian Nepali community platform NepaliPage connects approximately two hundred thousand Nepalis living in Australia.

NepaliPage has been providing support to Nepali students, youth, and Nepali residents of Australia regarding jobs, housing, rooms, as well as career and business development.
