Press Release: NRNA ICC Condemns Unauthorized Use of Members' Data in NCC-USA Election Activities

Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) International Coordination Council (ICC) has recently received information regarding the unauthorized use of our members’ data by the group conducting the so-called NRNA NCC USA election scheduled for August 16-17, 2025. We would like to remind all concerned that the official election of NCC-USA has already been duly conducted on July 27-28, 2025, in accordance with the NRNA constitution. It is important to note that the authorized data was previously utilized in the official NCC NRN USA election held on July 27–28, 2025, which was organized under the authority of the Election Commission appointed by the NRNA ICC.
The data includes sensitive personal information such as photos, driver’s license details, and other identity documents. Using those data without written permission from ICC is a serious violation of privacy laws, including U.S. laws like the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and international rules similar to the General Data Protection Regulation. (GDPR) We have shared the data with the officials and representatives of NCC USA under a signed Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). We hereby inform all individuals who have signed the NDA that they are strictly prohibited from sharing the authorized data with any unauthorized person or company.
The unauthorized use of this sensitive data not only undermines the trust of our members but also places ICC at risk of data breaches and legal exposure. Under U.S. laws, the misuse or unauthorized transfer of personal data can result in severe civil liabilities, penalties, and potential criminal prosecution.
Therefore, we strongly urge an immediate halt to these unauthorized activities. If we find that any further violations of the NRNA’s constitution or international privacy laws have occurred particularly involving the misuse of members’ personal data NRNA ICC/ NCC-USA (2025-2027) may take legal action as per Policies including filing lawsuits and notifying the appropriate U.S. government authorities.
We once again sincerely request to all the concerned, to respect members’ privacy and uphold the organizational policies and governance structure of the NRNA.
