NRNA President Dr. KC’s Initiative to Solve Problems of Nepalis in Spain

Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) President Dr. Badri KC has drawn the attention of Tirtharaj Aryal, Director General of the Department of Passports, to immediately resolve the passport-related issues faced by Nepali citizens in Spain.

President Dr. KC brought this matter to light following complaints that Nepali citizens are experiencing delays and technical difficulties in renewing or obtaining new passports, despite the Spanish government’s announcement to grant legal status to undocumented immigrants.

He emphasized the need for the Department of Passports to immediately dispatch a mobile passport camp to enable undocumented migrant workers to take advantage of the Spanish government’s legalization opportunity.

"There is currently a large number of Nepalis there without passports or with expired ones," he said. "There are complaints that the available manpower at the Nepali Embassy in Spain cannot address this problem alone; therefore, a special team must be sent from Kathmandu."

Dr. KC mentioned that although there is no exact data on undocumented Nepalis in Spain, participating in this opportunity would allow unrecorded Nepali citizens to establish their legal status.

On the occasion, Director General Aryal informed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already decided to send a special team to Spain as soon as possible and that the decision is in the process of implementation.

Prior to this, the Honorable Minister for Foreign Affairs, the Foreign Secretary, and the Head of the Europe Division were met separately to inform them of the problems in Spain, and correspondence was also sent.

The meeting was attended by Krishna Kumar Subedi, Under Secretary of the Labor Migration and Nepali Diaspora Division, NRNA Chief Executive Officer Rajendra Kumar Raut, and Senior Officer Kunal Mishra.
