Holding a General Convention Before the Verdict is an Act of Contempt of Court: President Shrestha

Kathmandu — President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Mahesh Shrestha has stated that the executive committee led by Badri KC is attempting to hold a general convention while a case is still under consideration at the Supreme Court, which he described as a clear act of contempt of court.

According to Shrestha, on Baisakh 23,a joint bench of Supreme Court Justices Bal Krishna Dhakal and Abdul Aziz Musalman ordered that the matter of whether Badri KC’s executive committee would continue its work until Kartik 4, 2082 (October 21, 2025) be presented before the full bench. As per that order, the case remains under consideration, and the full bench has not yet delivered its verdict.

“Holding preparations for a general convention before the verdict is disrespectful to the judicial process,” Shrestha said. “This move is a direct violation of the Supreme Court’s order and will only increase disputes within the association rather than promote unity.” Shrestha made these remarks after KC began preparations for the general convention scheduled for October.

The order clearly states that the case involving whether the International Coordination Council, chaired by Dr. Badri KC, will continue its work until Kartik 4 must be referred to the full bench for a definitive legal interpretation. It further mentions that the final decision will only be made after applying the necessary legal principles.

President Shrestha urged all NRNA members to thoroughly study the court’s order and make prudent decisions, saying, “A general convention held without complying with the court’s order will only divide the NRNA, not unite it.”

According to the Supreme Court’s decision, Shrestha was elected president during the unity general convention held in Baisakh this year. Since then, he has claimed to be the legitimate president. However, KC has continued his activities, challenging Shrestha’s executive committee.court-1754890635.jpg
