NRNA General Secretary Lama Introduces Model of Membership Decentralization and Transparency

America. General Secretary and Steering Committee member Baburam Lama has stated that the announcement of finally achieving historical unity, breaking the long-standing division within the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), has infused new enthusiasm among the Nepali community scattered across the globe.

In his views published on Thursday through the social media platform Facebook, Lama said, "This unity that has now been achieved is not merely an organizational decision, but a victory of the shared dream, faith, and deep love for the motherland of Nepalis worldwide."

He further mentioned that making this unity lasting, strong, and results-oriented is now the biggest challenge. He stated, "To realize the goal of broader unity, special attention must be given to bringing revolutionary changes to the institutional structure of the NRNA."

Lama emphasized making transparency the core mantra of NRNA, demanding that every decision-making process be made completely open.

He holds the view that the Central Leadership (ICC) must be made fully accountable to the National Coordination Councils (NCCs) worldwide. "For this, it is an essential requirement and the first condition to prioritize rules and regulations and keep the organization free from personal interests," Lama said.

He also stressed that NCCs should be advanced not as a body of the association, but as an independent and autonomous partner organization following the United Nations model.

Similarly, he proposed making fundamental changes to the electoral system, suggesting that conventions and elections should be conducted through a direct system rather than the representative system (Delegates System).

He also put forward a plan for decentralization, proposing to abolish the existing centralized membership registration system and grant all NCCs the autonomy to create memberships through their own portals, with the central system acting only as a supporting mechanism.

Prioritizing regular dialogue and coordination with the NCCs, General Secretary Lama also emphasized that the creation of special mechanisms to integrate the knowledge, skills, and capital of NRNA members is essential.

He made it clear that it is the organization's duty to make the participation of youth and women meaningful and mandatory, not just a formality in this process. "We need to move forward with a clear vision and results-oriented action plan," he stated.

According to Lama, the main objective of NRNA is the 'continuation of Nepali citizenship and the prosperity of the motherland'. He stressed that everyone must now unite to fully realize this goal. Furthermore, characterizing the recent unity as the beginning of the NRNA's renaissance, he called upon everyone to utilize this opportunity to make the organization the most powerful and exemplary diaspora organization in the world.

The unity between the two formally divided groups of NRNA was announced on Mangsir 15, in the presence of the Prime Minister.
