NRNA Expresses Concern Over ‘Gen Z’ Protests and Subsequent Violence

Kathmandu – The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has expressed serious concern over the ‘Gen Z’ protests held across the country on September 8–9, 2025, and the subsequent violent incidents.

During and after the demonstrations, incidents of arson, vandalism, violence, and looting occurred nationwide. The arson at NRNA’s main secretariat in Baluwatar and at the private residence of its founding president, Upendra Mahato, was particularly distressing for the organization.

The association noted that reports of 30 young people losing their lives and over 1,000 injured during the protests have shocked Nepali communities worldwide. NRNA paid tribute to the deceased and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

NRNA acknowledged the awareness and sense of responsibility among the youth but urged the government and all stakeholders to swiftly restore stability, uphold sovereignty, national unity, and democratic values, and address the demands of young people through meaningful dialogue.

Furthermore, the 12th International General Assembly and World Conference, initially scheduled for October 2025, has been postponed and will be held within the next six months.
