‘National Lakhe Dance Performance and Felicitation Program 2082’ to be Held

Kathmandu, 30 Shrawan — Various organizations and groups have been actively working to promote and preserve Nepal’s indigenous religion, culture, and traditions. In this regard, it is the responsibility of every conscious citizen to inform the younger generation about the importance of the nation’s culture, originality, morality, and nationalism. With the aim of not only making young people—who are drawn to imported cultures—aware of their own indigenous art, culture, and identity but also giving them a firsthand experience of it, the annual Lakhe Dance is organized at Chandragiri–9, Machhegaun. This year too, the tradition will continue.
Chandragiri Municipality Mayor Ghanashyam Giri, along with Municipality Spokesperson Krishna Prasad Khadgi and others, formally inaugurated the banner for the ‘National Lakhe Dance Cultural and Felicitation Program 2082’ at a program on Friday. They announced that the Lakhe Dance will be held on Bhadra 14 at the Machhegaun Volleyball Ground.
According to Ramesh Shahi, founding president of Nepal Cultural Art Temple, the annual Lakhe Dance—which is organized to preserve and promote Nepal’s art and culture—will also be held this year in a grand and dignified manner.
The organization started the main Lakhe Dance in 2073 B.S. with the aim of safeguarding traditional culture. Continuing this initiative, in 2074 it organized the ‘Lakhe Dance Cultural and Felicitation Program’, which saw notable participation from 14 districts including Dhading, Nuwakot, Charikot, Bhojpur, Okhaldhunga, Chitwan, Gorkha, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, and Kathmandu.
In previous editions of the Lakhe Dance, various prominent figures from different fields were honored, including actors Rajesh Hamal and Nikhil Upreti; comedians Madan Krishna Shrestha and Haribansha Acharya; artists Kedar Ghimire, Shailendra Singh Khadka, Uttam KC, and Dipashree Niraula; dance directors Kamal Rai and Kabiraj Gahatraj; Birendra Hamal; choreographer Krishna Rasal; journalists Sanu Shrestha, Gita Adhikari, and Bishnu Subedi; singer Sahima Shrestha; singer Padam Rai; and many others.
