High-Level Committee Transfers Over NPR 8.3 Million to Mahesh Shrestha-led NRNA

Kathmandu – The high-level committee, chaired by Shesh Ghale, which organized the unification general convention of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) under the Supreme Court’s directive, has transferred over NPR 8.3 million in cash and assets to the Mahesh Shrestha-led NRNA executive. The handover took place during a special ceremony in Kathmandu, with global NRNs joining virtually.

Addressing the event virtually, Ghale praised the contributions of the Nepali diaspora and emphasized unity to make NRNA more effective, calling it “a shared family of Nepalis worldwide” and expressing confidence in the new leadership’s transparency and credibility.

Committee member Janaki Gurung stated that the savings of NPR 83,62,228, along with equipment like computers and printers, were handed over to the new committee. Present at the ceremony, President Mahesh Shrestha recalled past challenges and disputes and called for unity, stressing the protection of diaspora rights and international recognition of their identity as the top priorities.

Shrestha clarified that the October convention proposed by Badri KC’s faction would not take place and reaffirmed that the official NRNA is under his leadership. Former president and committee member Kul Acharya highlighted the need for a unified NRNA to implement citizenship and raise collective concerns.

Newly elected vice presidents, general secretary, and other officials pledged to work collaboratively, focusing on citizenship, dual nationality, labor rights, investment promotion, and emergency assistance for Nepalis abroad. Other speakers, including former presidents Debman Hirachan and Binod Kunwar, extended their best wishes, urging the organization to remain democratic, inclusive, and transparent.

NRNA Secretary Chintamani Sapkota and Treasurer Thakur Dhungana also participated.
